Malaysian Islands you never knew that exists

When the word “Beach Vacation” goes into your mind, do you always think of Port Dickson, Sabah, or maybe even… Pulau Langkawi? Well, in Malaysia, those aren’t the only Islands and Beaches that exist at all! Apparently, there are a few beautiful islands, with Sandy white beaches and Turquoise waters, located at the state of Terengganu. Got yourself interested? Well, let’s get to it.

1. Perhentian Islands

One of Perhentian Island’s Shores

Located 19km off the coast of Terengganu, the Perhentian Islands are a small group of beautiful, coral-fringed islands. There are two main islands, each called Pulau Perhentian Besar (“Big Perhentian Island”) and Pulau Perhentian Kecil (“Small Perhentian Island”). The small island is usually more crowded, due of their cheap accommodation, while the Big island can be a tad bit expensive, and usually occupied by families and those who want to avoid crowded areas.

Tourists in a Snorkeling Area

There are lots to do in Perhentian Islands, like snorkeling, scuba diving, jungle trekking, strolling and discovering new things, and more! Like, there’s no end of fun activities in the island. The beaches are also lined with beach chairs, white sands, and clear looking waters..

2. Kapas Island

An island that is just 2km long and 1km wide, Kapas Island is also another island you wouldn’t wanna miss taking a vacation at. Even though its a smaller island, it is less crowded, and therefore feels newer in comparison to Perhentian Islands. Although activities there are lesser, there are still tons of things to do at Kapas Island.  Be it Canoeing, Kayaking, sunbathing, playing in the sand, you name it!

3. Redang Island

One of Redang Island’s Beachside

Nearby Kapas Island, is Redang island. This small island is especially popular among travelers, who would like a bit more luxury during their stay. Redang island has many luxurious resorts, and many of them are of international standards. The reefs of the Redang archipelago are home to over 55 types of corals and 100 species of fish. This makes it the perfect diving and snorkeling area.

4. Gemia Island

Gemia Island Resort

Gemia Island is the only Private Island, with only 1 resort there to accommodate tourists and locals alike. If you love privacy, that’s where you will wanna be! Even though the island doesn’t have much sightseeing and snorkeling places, the packages include snorkeling trips at other islands, so that you won’t have to get bored with just Gemia Island alone.

5. Lang Tengah Island

Walkway from the Jetty to the Island

Lastly, located in between Perhentian Islands and Redang Island, Lang Tengah Island is another super small island that will get you off the hook! With just a few resorts and a few places to chill, this humble island is also another peaceful island, with not much crowds.

The verdict?

For shoulder seasons (April-June), it’s recommended to go for small islands, like Redang island and Gemia Island. For a holiday with most activities, it’s best to go for Redang and Perhentian Islands. However, do note that all the Islands will close every October – March.
