About the product

What is PlanJour?

PlanJour is a personal calendar and a daily journal in the same app. The calendar is a real one - recurring events, reminders, sharing, external sync. The journal is a real one too, private by design. This page is the plain description, written to be accurate rather than persuasive.

The short answer

PlanJour is a web app for planning your days and writing them down. One half is a full calendar: day, week, month, year and agenda views, recurring events, drag-and-drop rescheduling, reminders, colour-coded life categories, and import from Google, Apple or any iCal feed. The other half is a daily journal: one page per day for how it felt, what you were grateful for, what you got done, the habits you kept, and up to three photos.

They are joined rather than merely bundled. Events carry a life category, so the app can show you where your time actually went. Events you completed can carry over into that day's journal as wins. The plan and the record of what happened live in the same place, which is the entire reason the product exists.

It is made for one person planning their own life. There are no teams, no workspaces and no shared inboxes - sharing is one event, one named shared space, or view-only access to your calendar, given to a specific person.

Who it is for

  • People who liked paper and miss it

Bullet-journal and paper-planner users who want stickers, colour, custom covers and a page that feels handmade, without the mess and without losing search, repeats or reminders.

  • Creatives who need real scheduling

Designers, writers and makers who need recurring events and reminders to actually work, but find a default work calendar too clinical to open willingly.

  • Students balancing study and life

Lectures, deadlines, work shifts and downtime colour-coded in one place, with a journal that makes the term feel like something other than a queue of dates.

  • Solo professionals and freelancers

Client work, admin and personal time in one calendar, with categories per client and a record of where the week really went - no team tooling to configure.

How it differs from a general-purpose calendar

Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook are shared scheduling tools built around meetings and availability. They are good at that. They have no journal, no concept of which part of your life an event belongs to, and no opinion about whether your week was any good. PlanJour is built around the opposite question: not “when are you free?” but “where is your time going, and how did it feel?”

  • The journal is not an add-on

It is half the product, with its own page per day, its own history, its own export, and its own privacy model. It is not a notes field attached to an event.

  • Every event knows which part of your life it belongs to

Categories are not colours for decoration. They are what makes the time-balance insights, the Year Planner and the monthly Life Progress Checks possible at all.

  • Repeats are built for the day you break them

Move one occurrence, change everything from a date onwards, or cancel the series - PlanJour asks which you meant and leaves the rest of your history intact.

  • It is designed to be pleasant to open

Cream paper, warm colours, unhurried spacing, playful event shapes. A calendar you avoid opening is a calendar that stops being true within a week.

How it differs from a paper planner

A paper planner is private, pleasant and completely manual. It cannot remind you, cannot repeat an event, cannot be searched, cannot be shared with one specific person, and cannot add up your year. PlanJour keeps the feel and adds the arithmetic: it will tell you that you scheduled forty hours of work and ninety minutes of anything for yourself, which is the sort of thing a paper planner lets you not notice.

The trade paper normally wins on is privacy. That is the specific trade PlanJour set out to remove - see below.

Privacy, specifically

Journal entries belong to your account and are never shared unless you deliberately turn on sharing, which applies to calendar content only. Beyond that, PlanJour offers optional end-to-end encryption: your thoughts, wins, gratitude, affirmations, kept lines and photo list are encrypted in your browser with a key derived from a recovery key our servers never receive. We store ciphertext and cannot read it.

That has a real cost, stated plainly: with encryption on, the weekly recap stops quoting your entries, the assistant cannot read your journal, and search only covers what the device in your hand has unlocked. If you lose your recovery key, nobody - including us - can recover those entries.

Separately: AI features never touch the journal. The quick-add parser and the calendar assistant can read calendar events and nothing else. We do not sell personal data, and we never use anybody's journal, mood, habits or calendar to target advertising or to decide what to recommend to them.

What it costs

The free plan is a real plan, not a trial, and it does not expire. It includes the whole calendar - all views, recurring events, categories, stickers, sharing, drag-to-reschedule - plus the daily journal with the last 30 days of history, time balance insights, habit streaks, achievement trophies, dark mode, and full data export. No card is required at any point.

PlanJour Plus adds unlimited journal history, all cover themes and patterns, event reminders, external calendar sync, PDF exports, the monthly Life Progress Checks, the Year Planner, the weekly recap email and end-to-end encryption. It is billed monthly or annually in GBP, the annual price works out cheaper per month, and you can cancel or pause it yourself from your account page.

Journal entries are kept permanently on every plan. The free plan limits how far back you can look, never what is stored, and cancelling or downgrading never deletes anything you have written.
